FSIS Notice Updates Certification Requirements For Beef Exports

USDA Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) posted a new requirement Aug. 24 for establishments participating in the AMS export verification program for South Korea stating that each establishment must conduct a review of, and tighten appropriately, its weight range tolerance for boxes of boneless beef product for export to Korea.

Additionally, FSIS issued Notice 54-07 today (Aug. 28) stating that FSIS personnel upon receiving an application to export boneless beef to Korea will identify the following before signing the export certificate:

  • The exporting establishment and the beef products are eligible to export to Korea. Inspection personnel will verify this by checking the AMS list of eligible establishments using the following link: http://www.ams.usda.gov/lsg/arc/bev.htm.
  • The exporting establishment has reviewed the weight range tolerance for boxes of boneless beef destined for Korea and has adjusted those tolerances, if needed. If the establishment has not done a review, FSIS will not approve applications for export of beef to Korea.
