USMEF Members Invited To Reception For Industry And Traders In Chile

Members are invited to attend a reception organized by USMEF, USDA and the U.S. Embassy on Sept. 12 in Santiago for Chilean meat industry leaders, traders, government officials and media to generate excitement and interest in U.S. red meat.

Even though Chile is a large pork producing country, U.S. pork has duty-free access since the domestic industry does not feel threatened by imports. Additionally, duties on beef were eliminated in January. USMEF sees a niche market for high-quality, grain-fed U.S. beef since grass-fed beef from Argentina and Brazil is prominent in stores.

Nelson Huerta, USMEF Mexico director of technical services, will present unique attributes of U.S. beef compared to domestic product and will explain the U.S. grading system that ensures consistent product.

A U.S. chef will prepare U.S. beef dishes that will be served at the reception for guests to taste and enjoy. More event details will be released as they become available. If you are interested in attending the reception, contact Ricardo Vernazza-Paganini, USMEF Central and South America director, at (303) 623-6328 or rvernazza-paganini@usmef.org.
