Slaughter Date Range Problems At Nuevo Laredo

Exporters are having problems at the Nuevo Laredo crossing due to what appears to be a software glitch concerning slaughter date ranges. The new software system, operated by the agriculture ministry’s agency, SENASICA, stipulates that the slaughter date range in the export certificate can only be used if each date within the range is represented in the corresponding shipment. This means that the software thinks that a range on the export certificate of Dec. 21 to 23 means that there must be boxes with slaughter date labels of all three dates — Dec. 21, Dec. 22 and Dec. 23. If a load has boxes only with labels dated Dec. 21 and 23, the certificate must list each date, not a range. USDA’s Food Safety & Inspection Service has verified that this is not an official change to Mexican regulations. USMEF is working with the USDA to resolve the problem.
