Hard Rock Café First To Put U.S. Beef Back On Its Menu, Others To Follow

Kicking off a two-week U.S. beef promotion last week, Hard Rock Café Singapore became the first restaurant to feature U.S. beef since Singapore ended its ban in January.

The promotion features U.S. beef rib-eye steak, strip steak and tenderloin steak. A complimentary glass of red wine is served with every item ordered. To advertise the promotion, Hard Rock Café is using banners, radio advertisements and table-top promotion cards.

Several other restaurants are starting to feature U.S. beef starting this week and American chains like Morton's, Lawry's and Stuart Anderson’s will feature U.S. beef after current stocks of Australian and New Zealand beef is exhausted, which is expected to be by the end of March.

Supermarkets are also featuring U.S. beef as Japanese stores like Isetan and Meidi-ya started selling U.S. beef last weekend. Gourmet stores of the Cold Storage supermarket groups will have U.S. beef this week.

USMEF Draws Positive Attention To U.S. Meat At Large Food Expo

USMEF is drawing positive attention to U.S. pork and beef at the largest event in the United Kingdom’s food calendar, the Food & Drink Expo 2006, held March 19-22 in Birmingham.

At the USMEF information booth in the USA Pavilion, visitors can pick up U.S. pork and beef information kits and also talk with USMEF Director, Europe, Russia & Middle East Jackie Hruby and USMEF Processing & Retail Consultant Monty Brown.

This is the first time USMEF is exhibiting at an expo in the United Kingdom, and has made several new contacts so far. After meeting with USMEF at the expo, one butcher already placed an order and will be receiving U.S. beef later this month.

The expo incorporates the foodservice, manufacturing, retail, wholesale and export sectors to provide a showcase for innovative manufacturers and a meeting place for the world’s buyers.
