Mexico City's origins date to 1325, when the area was settled by the Aztecs. Now, with a population of more than 21 million, Greater Mexico City is the cultural, political, and economic capital of Mexico. A cosmopolitan mecca drawing people from across the globe, it offers visitors Aztec pyramids, world-class museums, art, modern-day architecture and cutting-edge restaurants serving fine cuisine from all over the world.
Monterrey, with a population of 4.5 million, is Mexico’s industrial center. Home to many domestic and international businesses, it is also the meat capital of Mexico. Located in northern Mexico, Monterrey has adopted many aspects of American culture and business practices and has a rich culinary tradition centered on grilling and meat-oriented dishes.
Mexico is one of the most important international markets for the U.S. red meat industry — the largest in volume for the U.S. pork and lamb sectors, and second-largest for U.S. beef. The country offers tremendous future opportunities for U.S. red meat due to its growing population and economy, meat-focused culinary tradition and domestic production challenges.
Join us in March for an exploration of Mexico City and Monterrey. Get a firsthand look at the food and meat cultures, demand trends and USMEF activities designed to attract new customers for U.S. red meat. Learn about the underlying strategies USMEF uses to maximize return on the investments our industry partners make in international market development.
