USMEF Study Designed To Increase U.S. Pork Exports

USMEF recognizes the potential for exporting U.S. pork to Russia and is currently conducting a comparison study with Brazil to gain a better understanding of strategies and techniques that can assist with increasing U.S. pork exports to Russia.

In 2005, Russia imported 314,121 metric tons of pork and 55 percent of it was from Brazil. USMEF views Brazil’s success as an opportunity to learn specific strategies and marketing trends that work best in the Russian market.

USMEF is currently gathering and reviewing data regarding strategies, strengths and weakness of Brazilian pork exports to Russia. USMEF is also spending time in Russia meeting with importers and gathering additional information on current trends and market demands.

The goal of the study is to evoke new opportunities and marketing strategies for U.S. pork in Russia by learning from the successful approach of Brazilian exporters within the past five years.

USMEF plans to release the findings of the study in early November at the USMEF Board of Directors Meeting in Cancun, Mexico.
