Russia Pork Certificate Valid Until Aug. 1; Two  States Added to Pork Suspension

USMEF has been working with USDA to gain clarification on the status of the current pork certificate with Russia, and Russian officials have now notified USDA that the certificate will be valid until Aug. 1. In this notification, Russia states that if negotiation of a new document is not completed before Aug. 1, further restrictions on U.S. exports will be considered. USMEF will be in consultation with trade officials from both countries to ensure completion by the Aug. 1 deadline.

Temporary restrictions imposed by Russia on U.S. establishments 244L and 244W will take effect June 15 rather than June 6. However, this means product must be on a ship by June 15, as Russia did not grant the U.S. request to allow all products from animals slaughtered by June 6.

An updated list of U.S. pork plants eligible to export to Russia can be found online.

Effective June 9, Russia has declared uncooked pork and pork products from Connecticut and Pennsylvania ineligible for export. These states join Utah (effective June 4) as the most recent states from which pork exports have been suspended by Russia. Arizona, California,  Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York are also on Russia’s pork suspension list. Uncooked pork, beef and poultry exports from four states -  Illinois, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin – are also ineligible.

Full details on these suspensions, including effective dates, can also be found online.

Kyrgyzstan Limits Meat Import Suspension to Seven States

Kyrgyzstan has reportedly reduced its ban on meat imports from the entire United States to include only the states of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Kansas and Texas. However, the suspension still includes all meat products, regardless of species.
