Russia Clarifies New List Of Points Of Entry For Meat Imports
In a response to a USMEF letter dated Dec. 5, 2007, the Russian Customs Service has clarified its decision to remove some of its customs posts from its list of approved points of entry for importing meat.
The reply says that the agency selected customs points based on the availability of cold-storage warehouses meeting the requirements and norms established by Russian authorities. It added that the list of customs points would be extended provided customs warehouses are set up in accordance with Russian regulations. The Russian authorities also are considering including the Baltic customs office on the list.
On Nov. 17, the Russian Customs Service published a new list of approved points of entry for importing meat which excluded customs points in the Far East (Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Magadan) as well as the Baltic customs office located in the St. Petersburg port. USMEF delivered a letter to the Russian Customs Service opposing this decision.
Members are reminded that these are customs office/point closures and NOT port closures. For example, while the Baltic customs office of St. Petersburg is closed, there are three additional customs offices in St. Petersburg that still can be utilized.
