Russia Lifts Meat Import Ban On All But Eight Brazilian States

The Russian Veterinary Control Service announced it is lifting the ban on beef and pork imports from Brazil except for the Brazilian states, Para, Amazonas, Acre, Rondonia, Tocantins, Maranhao, Amapa and Roraima, effective today, April 20. Brazilian meat can be shipped from approved plants to Russian processors.

The ban was imposed in September 2004 due to a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in Amazonas. Russia lifted the ban on imports from Santa Catarina state in December 2004 and later from six other states, which were the main exporting region.
