Pork Inspections Reduced To 20 Percent Of Shipments
The Taiwan Department of Health notified the inspection authority that effective January 3, 2008, imports of U.S. pork in the HS CODE 0203 category are to be subjected to 20 percent inspection instead of the current 100 percent inspection. This reduction in inspection is the result of the U.S. meeting the requirements of the agreed upon Improvement Plan by exporting 10 consecutive pork shipments in the HS 0203 category of at least 84 metric tons total which met the Taiwan requirements for ractopamine hydrochloride.
The five establishments which had violations in August, September, and October of 2007 are still under 100 percent inspection until they each ship and clear 5 consecutive shipments. All other U.S. pork exports will be subjected to 20 percent inspection.
