Negotiations Continue With Poland On U.S. Beef

Although the USDA announced that Poland has lifted its ban on U.S. beef products, negotiations still continue on the language required for U.S. export documents. Until this is resolved, U.S. exporters cannot ship to Poland.

Products with export certificates issued through January 16 will be allowed entry into Poland.

Imports of inedible beef products (such as pet food) are believed not to be prohibited, according to the USDA, but exporters should have their importers confirm this prior to shipment.

Romania                                                                                       

Romania Accepting Tripe And Non-Hormone U.S. Beef

Romania is still accepting U.S. beef products as long as they’re part of the Non-Hormone Treated Cattle (NHTC) Program, with the exception of tripe, which does not need to meet NHTC requirements. All shipments to Romania must now have the BSE statement on the export certificate FSIS Form 9250-2 manually lined out. See the FSIS Export Library Romania entry for more details.

Chilled Beef May Be Frozen

South Korea’s agriculture ministry is allowing U.S. chilled beef in storage to be frozen, as long as the boxes and cartons are not opened, allowing the product to be re-shipped if necessary. South Korea currently does not allow imports of U.S. beef because of the lone case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
