Please Contact Your Representatives in Support of MAP, FMD

Published: Jun 16, 2015
The Agriculture Appropriations process for Fiscal Year 2016 has reached an important phase, which means legislators will soon be making funding decisions regarding the USDA Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development (FMD) program.

MAP and FMD are important sources of funding support for the promotion of U.S. beef, pork and lamb – as well as many other U.S. agricultural products – in international markets. While congressional support for these programs is very strong, it is important to remind legislators of the critical contributions red meat exports provide for the U.S. economy and their positive impact on our balance of trade.

The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee has scheduled a markup session for Thursday, June 18 on the FY 16 Agriculture Appropriations bill, and the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee is expected to hold markup sessions in early July. Please contact your representatives in the House and Senate, especially members of these subcommittees, in support of full funding of $200 million for MAP and $34.5 million for FMD, as authorized by the farm bill.
