Peru Opens To Bone-in U.S. Beef, Stomachs, Kidneys And Livers

Frozen and chilled U.S. beef stomachs, kidneys and livers are eligible immediately for export to Peru, but Peru will also accept all boneless and bone-in U.S. beef products with export certificates dated May 31, 2006, or later. See the online FSIS Export Library of Requirements for details.

U.S. beef and beef variety meat exports to Peru ranked third among Central and South American nations until Peru banned U.S. beef in December 2003, and livers and hearts were the best sellers. The quality of U.S. livers and hearts is much higher than South American products. U.S. livers and hearts are bigger, darker and better packed. USMEF sees opportunities to increase the margin on these low-value products, since a large part of the demand comes from the higher socioeconomic classes, who are able to pay more.
