Our Daily News item of Nov. 15 should have included the following explanatory information:
It is important to note that packing for, or “co-packing,” is different that “Doing Business As.” The USMEF office in Seoul has indicated that if product is shipped using a co-packer, the establishment number, the address of the establishment and the statement “produced by XXX” or “packed by XXX” must appear on the box or label. The USDA directory lists companies if they have registered “Doing Business As” names or brands, but does not necessarily list companies which are co-packing different names or brands under one establishment number; thus the reason for placing the additional information on the box. This will help minimize any problems you might encounter if the name on the box does not appear in the USDA establishment directory.
