New Zealand Will Fill Lamb And Beef TRQs To U.S. And EU
The New Zealand meat authority Meat NZ reported that its lamb and beef industries are on target to fill their tariff rate quotas (TRQ) to both the United States and the European Union (EU) in 2002.
In a report issued today (August 19) Meat NZ predicted that “the allocation and management of New Zealand’s NZ$2.6 billion sheepmeat and beef tariff quotas into the European Union and North America is rolling along nicely, with all quotas largely on track to meet their ceilings by year's end.”
Meat NZ is responsible for managing and coordinating the New Zealand industries exports under international agreements.
The EU 2002 TRQ for New Zealand lamb is 226,700 metric tons (mt) and Meat NZ said that around 73% of the country's tariff quota for this year has already been filled.
The U.S. TRQ for New Zealand beef and veal is 213,402 metric tons, and New Zealand has filled about 55% of its quota for the year.
