New Russia Pork Certificate to Have July 1 Issuance Date
New Russia Pork Certificate to Have July 1 Issuance Date
USMEF has received official clarification regarding the effective dates of the new and old U.S. pork certificates for Russia. Both FSIS and Russia’s Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (VPSS) consider July 1, 2010, to be the issuance date, rather than a port arrival date, for the new certificate. Therefore, beginning July 1, the new certificate must be issued for all pork shipments to Russia.
VPSS has also specifically instructed Russia’s ports of entry that old U.S. pork export certificates issued before July 1, 2010, will be acceptable for pork shipments that arrive in Russia after July 1, 2010.
USMEF, the National Pork Producers Council and the American Meat Institute were informed in a conference call earlier today that USDA expects new export certificates for both pork and beef to be printed and distributed by July 1. However, USDA encouraged the industry to arrange its orders and shipments so that as much product as possible is shipped by June 30 using the old certificates. This will help minimize shipping interruptions in the event that the distribution process for the new certificates encounters any unexpected delays.
