New FSIS Letterhead Certificate Requirement for EU
The Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS) has updated the EU Requirements in the online Export Libraryadding an FSIS letterhead certificate for meat preparations as follows:
- Meat Preparations*
- FSIS Form 9060-5 Export Certificate of Wholesomeness.
- FSIS letterhead certificate, Veterinary Certificate for Meat Preparations intended for Consignment to the European Community, is available in English, French, German and Netherlands.

According to the FSIS Export Library EU Requirements, “meat preparations” are defined as follows:
- “Meat preparations” means meat (from carcasses, offal, poultry meat, minced meat, wild game or rabbit) which have had foodstuffs, seasonings or additives added to them; or which have undergone a treatment insufficient to modify the internal cellular structure of the meat and, thus, does not cause the characteristics of the fresh meat to disappear.
Canada Bans Anhydrous Ammonia
Canada has revised its export requirements to exclude meat products treated with anhydrous ammonia as an antimicrobial agent.
