New Canadian Wood Packing Rules March 17, 2008

The Agriculture Transportation Coalition (AgTC) reports that members who ship between the United States and Canada need to be aware that wood packing material (WPM) is no longer exempt from the ISPM 15 marking requirements. Until now, WPM originating in the United States and destined for Canada was exempt from the WPM requirements. Just last week the United States and Canada agreed to end the exemption and require all WPM to be treated according to the standard. Implementation is being staged in over two years, with the exact enforcement date to be announced.

The New Wood Packing Material Requirements can be read online as well as an AgTC update on the Port of Los Angeles Final Truck Plan.
