NAFTA Panel Hearing On U.S. Pork Dumping Investigation To Be Held On April 1
On January 20, 2006, the Mexican Pork Producers Council (MPPC) requested that a NAFTA panel review the Mexican Secretary of the Economy’s (Economia) decision to discontinue the dumping investigation against hams imported from the United States. The panel could confirm the determination made by Economia or remand it with new, further instructions.
USMEF, along with AMI, NPPC, APEX and some individual companies appeared to present arguments against the MPPC challenge of Economia’s determination. Now the panel has scheduled a public hearing for April 1, 2008, to hear oral arguments from each of the participants.
Once the public hearing takes place, there is no specific deadline for the panel to render its determination. Nonetheless, the determination could occur within the next three months after the hearing.
