To capitalize on demand for high-quality, corn-fed beef and pork in Japan, the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council (MCMC) has partnered with USMEF in the production of new promotional materials. Funding support from MCMC has been used to produce colorful posters that will be used in conjunction with USMEF retail campaigns and special culinary events.
New posters focus on high-quality, corn-fed U.S. beef and pork
“While consumers in Japan always say that safety is a top priority, we have found that they actually respond more positively to messages that convey quality and wholesomeness,” said USMEF Japan Director Gregory Hanes. “This type of image helps us subtly address consumers’ safety concerns, but do so in a more positive and appealing manner by stressing the quality of corn-fed beef and pork.”
“Missouri’s corn producers appreciate the opportunity to participate with USMEF in this promotional campaign,” said MCMC Chairman Keith Witt of Warrenton, Mo. “With livestock production being our No. 1 customer, we know that beef and pork exports contribute to our bottom line and that Japan is an extremely critical market for us.”
Through the first five months of 2009, Japan is once again the top value destination for U.S. pork. With exports valued at nearly $695 million, Japan is running 17 percent above last year’s record pace and has accounted for about 38 percent of the global value of U.S. pork exports.
Beef exports to Japan are also performing well in 2009. At $152.6 million, beef exports to Japan through the first five months of the year are 22 percent above last year’s pace, making Japan the third-largest value market for U.S. beef.
