U.S. Pork Cooking Program A Hit In Warehouse Stores
USMEF is cooking things up at 42 Sam’s Club retail stores in Mexico with “Cocinando ando” or “cooking” seminars introducing customers to U.S. pork and having them cook and taste it in the store.
“This program helps familiarize consumers with U.S. pork and preparations,” said Gustavo Castaño, USMEF Mexico retail marketing manager. “Another result is increased sales of U.S. pork at the stores after the ‘Cocinando ando’ event.”
USMEF Chef Ricardo Ornelas first introduces the advantages of U.S. pork, such as its high quality, superior flavor and safety. Ornelas then identifies a variety of dishes that can be prepared with the U.S. pork cuts customers can purchase at the store.
To further demonstrate this point, Ornelas asks the group questions based on the information he has presented and chooses three customers who answered correctly to help cook dishes with U.S. pork. Once prepared, the cooks and customers who watched the cooking demonstration can taste the dishes. Participants receive U.S. pork cookbooks so they can try recipes, such as U.S. pork with berry and chipotle sauce, at home.
The program started in August and ends the second week of November.
