USMEF Leads Washington StateLeaders On Market Visit
A Washington state delegation saw firsthand last week USMEF activities in Mexico to increase demand for U.S. red meat.
Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire, Washington Cattlemen’s Association Past President Peter Guglielmino and Washington Department of Agriculture International Marketing Manager Janet Leister participated in USMEF retail store promotions and went to markets and restaurants to gain a better understanding of the market and consumer preferences.
Mexico is the top destination for U.S. beef exports and the second largest for U.S. pork exports.
At Costco, USMEF Chef Ricardo Ornelas talked about the main characteristics of U.S. beef and pork and then invited customers to cook dishes using U.S. meat. This shows consumers how easy it is to prepare a healthy meal that tastes good. Afterward, the delegation joined the audience in tasting the dishes.
USMEF Mexico Retail Marketing Manager Gustavo Castano led the delegation on a tour of a U.S. beef distributor, a wet market where 60 percent of meat is sold, retail stores and restaurants. The retail stores featured U.S. meat promotional materials and displays and the restaurant visit included a U.S. meat menu promotion with checkoff logos on the menus and tent cards.
