USMEF Continues Support Of Campaign To Control Obesity And Diabetes

Lean cuts of U.S. pork and beef are an important part of a healthy diet, leading to better control of diabetes and obesity, a USMEF nutritionist told medical staff, children and parents at a recent seminar in Pachuca.

The seminar was held as part of the Platicame National Campaign, designed to help fight diabetes and obesity. USMEF has participated in many seminars this year supporting the cause.

"Imparting good nutritional information about U.S. meat products to our Mexican consumers is critical. Mexico, like the United States, is battling obesity and a growing incidence of diabetes among its population," said Chad Russell, USMEF regional director for Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

During the event, children exercised with USMEF Roy’s Club characters Roy, Alberto and Sam, while parents received U.S. meat nutrition information.

Lean cuts of U.S. meat help keep blood sugar levels within a safe range and are a good source of protein in a healthy diet designed to manage calories and fat intake to prevent obesity and high cholesterol, which can lead to diabetes complications.

Parents also could enroll their children in Roy’s Club, which introduces the importance of eating a balanced meal with red meat as a key ingredient. As club members, kids earn prizes while learning about staying healthy with proper nutrition and exercise.
