Technical Meetings Help Facilitate Meat Trade
USMEF recently organized three technical meetings with OISA (Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Verification Office) and customs inspectors in Mexico to facilitate meat trade by helping officials understand the technological processes, health commitments and meat cuts exported by the United States.
Meetings held at border cities Ciudad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo and Tijuana increased knowledge of inspection and verification processes to avoid redundancy. They also helped inspectors understand U.S. meat processing to ease the inspection process and strengthened a common commitment of protecting human and animal health.
Mexico is the top market for U.S. pork and beef exports. Many U.S. meat products enter the country through the border cities the technical meetings were held in.
