“I Am Cooking” U.S. Pork Tour Heats Up Big Box Stores
USMEF is heating things up at Sam’s Club retail stores in Mexico with “I Am Cooking” seminars introducing customers to U.S. pork and having them cook it in the store.
“This program has increased the U.S. pork sales volume at participating stores,” said Luis Arias, Sam’s Club meat purchasing manager. “We also feel new customers are visiting our stores because of the program.”
USMEF Chef Ricardo Ornelas first introduces the advantages of U.S. pork, such as its high quality, nutrition value, superior flavor and safety. Ornelas then identifies a variety of dishes that can be prepared with the U.S. pork cuts customers can purchase at the store.
To further demonstrate this point, Ornelas asks the group questions based on the information he has presented and chooses three customers who answered correctly to help cook dishes with U.S. pork. Once prepared, the group of customers can taste the dishes.
This helps familiarize Mexican shoppers with U.S. pork advantages and preparations. Ornelas visited eight stores in June and more are planned in July.
