Chefs Taste Delicious Pairings Of U.S. Meat And California Wines
Sixty chefs and foodservice managers keenly watched and learned as chefs prepared innovative U.S. meat dishes and paired them with cheeses and California wines during the Gastronomic Fest of American Products recently in Tijuana.
Participants were shown how to handle food safely and were able to taste the prepared dishes to sample the U.S. products. The seminar is part of a series USMEF is conducting throughout Mexico, with two in Mexico City and Los Cabos remaining.
USMEF participated in the American products event with the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, the U.S. Dairy Export Council and California wine producers.
A day before the gastronomic event, USMEF demonstrated how to use U.S. beef, pork and lamb to create a variety of dishes and what cheeses to pair them with for 15 chefs in Ensenada City so the chefs could utilize the U.S. products in their dishes, creating pleasing dishes for consumers.
European Union
U.S. Pork Items Will Not Pay Additional 14 Percent Duty
An additional 14 percent duty on certain U.S. pork cuts the European Union (EU) was planning to impose May 16 will not be applied. The threat of the duty came from a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling against the United States in a case the EU brought against the U.S. Foreign Sales Corporation, but the EU is now satisfied by the U.S. repeal of WTO-incompatible tax breaks for U.S. companies and will not impose the duty.
U.S. ham and other boneless pork cuts falling under the HS codes 0203 22 11, 0203 29 55, 0203 29 59 and 0203 29 90 would have been affected.
