Market Access Update: Russia Suspends Imports from Illinois; Croatia Lifts Suspension on U.S. Meat
As anticipated in the last USMEF report, Illinois has now been added to Russia’s list of states from which all uncooked meat products are ineligible. With the addition of Illinois, eight states are now impacted by Russia’s influenza-related trade suspensions. Arizona and Massachusetts are suspended for non-heat treated pork only, while California, Delaware, Illinois, New York, South Carolina and Texas are included for non heat-treated products regardless of species.
Since the last USMEF update, four more states – Hawaii, Oklahoma, South Dakota and the key shipping port state of Washington - have been added to China’s suspension list, along with the District of Columbia. While this suspension now covers all states listed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as having confirmed H1N1 Influenza cases, we anticipate ongoing updates to the FSIS Export Library based on further confirmation of influenza cases by CDC.
In other changes, Armenia and Malaysia have moved from the “watch list” to the suspension list as a result of the latest changes to the FSIS Export Library, while Croatia has lifted its import ban and is no longer included on the suspension list. A full summary of import suspensions and market access is available online.
