Market Access Update Russia Modifies Status of Delaware, So. Carolina; Nicaragua Opens to All U.S. Beef

While 11 states are still impacted by the suspensions imposed by Russia, changes have been posted with regard to South Carolina and Delaware. Beef and poultry products from these two states are now eligible, except for the May 3 through May 5 time period. On or after May 6, the suspensions for South Carolina and Delaware are limited to pork only. Because of this change, South Carolina and Delaware have essentially moved from the “all meats” category to the “pork only” category on the suspension list for Russia.

Despite news reports that Kazakhstan has lifted import restrictions on Mexican pork, no changes to its ban on pork imports from Texas, California and Kansas have been made in the FSIS Export Library. A complete, updated list of market suspensions is available online.

In a market access development unrelated to A-H1N1 Influenza, Nicaragua has removed all product and age restrictions for U.S. beef, effective May 5, 2009.
