Free Trade Agreement Allows Mexico To Export 80,000 Mt To Japan

Mexican and Japanese trade negotiators worked out their differences and reached an agreement for a bilateral Free Trade Agreement, which limits Mexican pork exports to Japan to 80,000 metric tons per annum. The agreement will come into force later this year.

The USDA is reportedly planning to increase its bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) testing to some 200,000-300,000 animals per annum (from the current total of 20,000-40,000) at a network of 20 regional laboratories. An announcement may come today (March 10).
