U.S. Meat Industry Team Meets With Japanese Counterparts

A U.S. meat industry leader team, consisting of representatives from USMEF member packers and producers organizations, is in Japan this week to gain a greater understanding of the Japanese market and develop closer relationships with Japanese meat industry.

This team is one of many events conducted by USMEF this month in Japan as a part of American Meat Month, designed to facilitate business partnerships and to increase Japanese consumer awareness of U.S. red meat.

On Wednesday (July 18), the USMEF Japan staff provided an overview of the current market situation and details about USMEF activities and campaigns. The team visited the U.S. Embassy for a political update and met with Embassy officials.

Afterward, a lunch roundtable was held for U.S. pork team members with the Ham and Sausage Manufacturing Association and for U.S. beef members with the Japan Meat Traders Association. Both associations are leading and influential importers of U.S. meat products. Team members said face-to-face discussions facilitated greater understanding of issues and encouraged possible ways to cooperate.

Later, the team joined USMEF and hall-of-fame baseball pitcher Nolan Ryan at Chiba Lotte Marines Stadium to enjoy a baseball game and USMEF consumer events taking place at the ballpark.
