U.S. Beef “We Care” Caravan Retail Tour Boosts Sales
The U.S. beef “We Care” caravan visited 10 retail outlets in Tokyo, Nakayama and Hiroshima during August. Outside the stores at the “We Care” kitchen car, USMEF provided yakiniku or bite-sized grilled meat samples prepared with boneless U.S. beef chuck ribs to customers. Inside the stores, U.S. beef was promoted at meat counters to encourage consumers to buy the meat they sampled.
And buy, they did. Results show that U.S. beef sales increased 170 percent during the week the “We Care” caravan visited each store. The two Uny stores had the largest increase, selling more than 1,500 pounds of U.S. beef, an increase of more than 200 percent during the promotion week.
Nebraska beef and grain producers were on hand at Seiyu store visits to meet consumers and demonstrate the “We Care” message firsthand. Their participation was funded by the Nebraska Beef Council, Nebraska Soybean Board and Nebraska Corn Board. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture also helped organize their trip.
