Okinawa Consumers Learn To Prepare U.S. Pork Dishes From Top Chefs

USMEF held a cooking class last Wednesday in Okinawa at the first-class Naha Terrace Hotel to help consumers learn U.S. pork dish preparation from the hotel’s top chefs. People in Okinawa consume a great deal of pork and prepare it in different styles than other areas in Japan.

The chefs, who regularly cook with U.S. pork, demonstrated five recipes specially created for consumers. Participants tasted the dishes, asked questions and received a packet containing the recipes and information on U.S. pork. An interactive game helped consumers learn about U.S. pork attributes and increased participation.

Another cooking class will be held Nov. 28 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Osaka. Japanese consumers can also visit the USMEF Japan Web site to access the U.S. pork recipes.
