Natural pork casings and imported natural ruminant casings that follow specific requirements for processing, documentation and plant eligibility are eligible for export to Japan.
Processing requirements include natural casings derived from animals born and raised in countries other than those specified. For meat products using artificial casings derived from cellulose, a statement indicating the composition of the casing must be included in the Remarks section of FSIS 9060-5. For example, "Artificial casings prepared from cellulose, fibrous paper, clycerin, and moisture".
Establishments must comply with export requirements for Japan and must be identified as eligible before exporting. To establish eligibility, establishments must submit FSIS Form 9080-3.
