Japan Announces 9th BSE Case

Japan announced its second case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in the space of four weeks and its ninth case since Asia’s first BSE case was discovered there in September 2001.

Japan’s Health Ministry announced a new case today (Nov. 4) in a 21-month-old Holstein bull in Hiroshima prefecture, western Japan.

The latest two cases were born after Japan banned the use of meat-and-bone meal (MBM) feed in October 2001.
