Funds From U.S. Beef Meals Donated To Charity Supporting Orphans

USMEF donated nearly $7,000 (784,000 yen) to Ashinaga Iku-eikai, a Japanese-based charity that helps orphaned children emotionally and financially, in a ceremony at the USMEF office in Tokyo. The money is the total sales amount of U.S. beef prime rib meals sold at the USMEF chuck wagon booth during the Country Gold outdoor music festival held Oct. 21 in Japan.

”USMEF has been in Japan for more than 30 years and we feel we are an integral part of Japanese society,” USMEF Japan Director Greg Hanes said. “We wanted to demonstrate that as producers and suppliers of wholesome, safe, and delicious U.S. beef products, we care about the people, especially the children, who enjoy our products.”

Ashinaga Executive Board Member Toshihiko Kudo (pictured to the right with Hanes) and Manager of General Affairs Kazuo Yanase were on hand to accept the check from Hanes. Media from four different outlets in Japan covered the ceremony.

Ashinaga has been providing support to orphaned children since 1969. For more information, go to http://www.ashinaga.org/e/.
