Food Additives In Meat Products May Be Closely Inspected

Recent Japanese media coverage on the unlisted use of food additives in some Japanese food items has raised consumer concern about ingredients in domestic, processed foods. USMEF-Japan reports the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare may initiate a close monitoring of imported processed products including processed meat items. One major Japanese company has already admitted the use of certain non-approved additives in products from the United States.

Consequently, USMEF-Japan wants to caution member processors to contact their Japanese agents or customers to ensure the products they export to Japan do not contain additives which are not allowed in Japan.
