Extravaganza Celebrates American Meat Month
To demonstrate appreciation from the U.S. meat industry, USMEF hosted a U.S. meat extravaganza event Thursday (July 19) evening in Tokyo for more than 650 key Japanese traders. The extravaganza was a part of American Meat Month, a USMEF celebration during July encouraging traders to increase U.S. meat supplies and consumers to make regular purchases.
“An event like this is very important to the trade in Japan,” said USMEF Japan Director Greg Hanes. “They see firsthand the commitment and dedication the U.S. industry has for the Japanese market and U.S. meat is perceived as the highest quality products available.”
Following welcoming comments from USMEF President and CEO Phil Seng and former baseball stars Nolan Ryan and Bobby Valentine, several USMEF members who joined in activities this week gathered on stage to help start the reception.
Guests enjoyed 10 different U.S. beef and pork dishes while being entertained by Charlie & Canon Ball, the most famous country band in Japan.
USMEF also celebrated its 30-year anniversary at the extravaganza with a presentation highlighting USMEF events in Japan since 1976.
“It takes time to develop trust and respect in the Japanese culture,” Hanes said. “USMEF has been here for more than 30 years developing these relationships and so many members of the trade participating in tonight’s event is a great endorsement of all the efforts over the years.”
Key meat buyers and executives from importers, trade, retail and foodservice companies invited to the extravaganza also participated in U.S. meat seminars earlier in the day to learn about U.S. industry efforts to supply the safest and highest quality products to Japanese consumers.
