Six Suspected Cases Of Hog Cholera

Six hogs in southwestern Japan have tested positive for hog cholera, a Japanese official announced today (March 18). If confirmed, the outbreak would be Japan's first since 1992.

Preliminary tests on organs from the pigs at a slaughterhouse in Kagoshima prefecture indicated the animals had the infectious disease, Agriculture Ministry spokesman Tatsumi Okura said. Further tests are being conducted.
