FSIS Request Comments For A Risk-Based Verification Program

In an effort to design a risk-based verification program for specific establishments, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the release of a form for public comment which will serve to collect information about ready-to-eat (RTE) products.  The form is known as 10,240-1, or “Production Information on Post-Lethality Exposed Ready-to-Eat Products.”

The agency intends to issue a second notice instructing inspection personnel on how to verify that Form 10,240-1 has been completed and submitted by establishments.  Upon receipt of the notice, inspection personnel are to inform plant management of the requirement to complete the form.  The form must be submitted to FSIS in order to meet regulatory requirements provided in 9 CFR § 430.4(d).  Failure by the establishment to complete and submit the form within 30 days of receipt may result in enforcement actions.

A copy of the notice is on the FSIS website.  Form 10,240-1 is also available online.
