Imperial Hotel Holding U.S. Middle Meats Promotion in Tokyo
Imperial Hotel Holding U.S. Middle Meats Promotion in Tokyo
Since 1890, Tokyo’s Imperial Hotel has been one of Japan’s leading attractions and one of the nation’s most popular and influential restaurant locations. This week the Imperial’s upscale Parkside Diner is conducting a U.S. beef promotion featuring high-quality middle meats, such as ribeye and sirloin steaks. The promotion is something of a breakthrough, as it is the first time since the market was closed in 2003 that the Imperial Hotel has actively promoted U.S. beef. The promotion, which runs through May 6, is being held in conjunction with Japan’s Golden Week holidays. Golden Week is a collection of four national holidays within a seven-day period, and is considered one of Japan’s busiest holiday seasons.

“Selected American favorites in delicious contemporary versions, created with uncompromising Imperial flair”
USMEF has been actively working with the Imperial to resume U.S. beef sales, and the hotel was very encouraged by a USMEF chef competition conducted there last year. If the middle meat promotion is received as positively as USMEF anticipates, the Imperial will look at ways to keep U.S. beef on its menus – especially for its banquets, which move a large volume of high quality steaks.

“As one of the finest hotels in Japan, the Imperial will have a very positive influence in the market as it resumes serving U.S. beef,” said Gregory Hanes, USMEF Japan director. “It is a top priority for the beef industry and the Beef Checkoff Program to raise the profile of our high-quality middle meats in Japan, and the Imperial is an outstanding venue in which to accomplish that.”
