House Passes Funding Bill

By a wide margin, the U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation that includes a continuing resolution to authorize the full $200 million funding of the Market Access Program (MAP) and $34.5 million for the Foreign Market Development (FMD) Program, as outlined in the 2008 Farm Bill.   The bill now goes to the Senate, which could consider it as early as this evening.

The bill (H.R. 2638), which was passed by 370 votes to 58, extends the federal government’s funding through March 6, 2009. It included all 12 of the 2009 fiscal year appropriations bills. Funding for USDA agencies and programs is continued at the 2008 fiscal year levels.

In fiscal year 2008, USMEF received $18,841,555 from the MAP and $2,015,445 from the FMD program.
