"Since this recall was not done for food safety reasons, it is our hope that our international trading partners will see this action for what it is: a proactive step by the U.S. government to enforce our humane handling procedures for livestock. However, we understand that situations like this can trigger emotional responses in markets that are not fully aware of the overlapping safeguards that are in place in the United States, so USMEF will continue to closely monitor reactions among our trading partners."
