Reception Marks Opening Of USMEF Office In Brussels

FAS-Brussels kindly co-hosted a reception Thursday (Oct. 11) at the U.S. Mission with USMEF to mark the opening of the USMEF office in Brussels.

Debra Henke, Trade Counselor at the Mission, and Phil Seng, USMEF President and CEO, welcomed guests and reminded those present of the opportunity for U.S. meat in the European Union (EU). The USMEF office in Brussels is situated close to the U.S. Mission and the EU Commission, allowing for close contact and coordination with stakeholders and decision makers.

More than 50 guests attended the reception, including EU importers of U.S. red meat, cooperator groups, U.S. Mission representatives and EU Commission officials.

Lively discussions went on between the importers, who were happy to have the opportunity to meet together and share experiences not just with each other, but also with the diverse guests present. They were very happy as well to share their experiences with USMEF senior management.

USMEF Chair Dennis Erpelding, USMEF Sr. Vice President, Policy Planning & ResearchThad Lively, NCBA Chief Economist Gregg Doud and Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Agricultural Affairs Jim Murphy also attended.

USMEF Regional Director, Europe, Russia & Middle East John Brook and Director, Public Affairs & Communications Anne Bardot were delighted with this official introduction of the Brussels office in Europe.

Earlier in the day, the delegation visited a foodservice supply store in the Netherlands where U.S. beef was on sale and then had meetings at the EU Commission with EU officials.

USMEF thanks the U.S. Mission for their warm welcome and aid in organizing this event.
