EU Expected To Introduce Pork Export Subsidies
Faced with continuing pork price declines in some member states, high feed prices, a weakening U.S. dollar and lower European Union (EU) export volumes, the European Commission announced last week it will take steps to introduce export refunds for fresh/frozen pork exports to all destinations.
Although the Commission has no intention of running export subsidies for any longer than absolutely necessary, the introduction of export refunds is a clear indication that the market is going to be supported and that further price declines are no longer on the horizon. For additional USMEF insight on this issue, see EU Expected To Introduce Subsidies For Pork Exports To All Destinations.
