EU Approval Can Be Obtained Through FSIS

The USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) has received notice from the European Commission that they will allow FSIS authority to recommend U.S. facilities for export of red meat to the European Union (EU).  This process was revoked in 2003, but FSIS negotiated with the European Commission to obtain authority to recommend U.S. facilities to export to the EU.  FSIS will now accept applications for inspection for EU export approval and will begin the inspection process very soon.  For more detailed information regarding the regulations for export of red meat to the EU, please refer to the FSIS Export Library of Requirements under European Union or contact Paul Clayton (pclayton@usmef.org), Ann Spaeth (aspaeth@usmef.org), or Kevin Smith (ksmith@usmef.org).
