U.S.  Beef Takes Center Stage At Awards Event In London

Superbly cooked U.S. beef tenderloin took center stage of the menu for the British Guild of Travel Writers Awards event in London at the Savoy, a world-renowned hotel. More than 250 writers for United Kingdom national newspapers, magazines and TV programs enjoyed U.S beef flown in for the event.

USMEF was one of the sponsors for the evening. As a result, the USMEF and beef checkoff logos were on the menu card and press kits were given to all guests. All persons attending had no doubt they were eating U.S. beef.

According to Derek Mackenzie-Hook of UK and Ireland Marketing, which helped organize the event, the U.S. beef served at dinner was a major talking point. He said three vegetarians who attended decided to try U.S. beef and one of them even sent the vegetarian dinner back to the kitchen for a beef dinner.

Members of the guild contribute regularly to 12 national daily newspapers, 30 regional newspapers, 95 travel publications, 83 general interest magazines and 37 business journals. Many members also write travel books and guidebooks.

“We are pleased the Savoy hotel is using U.S. beef and the result has been so successful,” USMEF Europe Processing And Retail Consultant Monty Brown said. “Even more success will come when we see U.S. beef stories in the newspapers.”
