Eric Choon Memorial

Published: Jan 28, 2008

Dear Friends of USMEF,

As you know, USMEF and the entire U.S. meat industry lost a friend and valuable resource recently with the passing of Eric Choon, USMEF ASEAN director.   Eric was an effective representative for the United States in Asia and a tireless advocate for training and education to help spread global appreciation of the quality and value of U.S. meat products.

After Eric’s passing, a number of members of our industry contacted me to see how they could offer their support.  In that spirit, in remembrance of the contributions Eric made to our industry and in keeping with his focus on training and education, USMEF is establishing the Eric Choon/USMEF International Research Award.  I invite and welcome any contributions that we can apply toward that award.

This annual award will be given to a researcher who recently completed original and valuable research that will advance the mission of USMEF and the international meat trade.  That may include international food marketing research that helps us better target our resources, technical research that provides new information related to meat science and technology, food safety or animal health, or other areas that will support our efforts.

All funds we receive will be dedicated to this award.  A team from USMEF and other industry experts will review research abstracts that we will solicit annually.  The first award will be announced in the fall of 2008 and presented in the spring of 2009.

Again, the family of Eric Choon and USMEF appreciate the many warm wishes extended after Eric’s passing.  We believe that establishing this annual award in Eric’s name will be an appropriate way to continue his memory and legacy.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  Thanks in advance for your support and interest.

Warm regards,
