Egyptian Veterinarian Team Visits U.S. Plants

An Egyptian veterinarian team visited the United States from June 30-July 16. This visit was organized by Egyptian traders and the Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) in Cairo after the Egyptian government stopped issuing import licenses for U.S. beef livers because of halal slaughter issues. The team visited Islamic Centers involved in certifying Islamic slaughter for exports of beef livers to Egypt and U.S.  meat processing plants.

It is hoped that this trip will result in approval of the U.S. beef industry system as a whole. Egypt permits licenses for any plants for which halal slaughter is certified by U.S. Islamic Centers and does not insist on plant-by-plant approval.
