Egypt Approves 20 U.S. Beef Plants

Following a visit by an Egyptian veterinarian team to the United States last month, Egypt has approved 20 U.S. slaughter plants for beef exports to Egypt. Three Islamic Centers visited by the team have also been approved to certify halal products for export to Egypt.

This visit was organized by Egyptian traders and the Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) in Cairo after the Egyptian government stopped issuing import licenses for U.S. beef livers because of halal slaughter issues.
