Effective Date for Pork Exports to Uzbekistan Pushed Back to Feb. 5
USMEF has learned that the effective date for resuming pork exports to Uzbekistan from 11 previously banned U.S. states is Feb. 5 – rather than Feb. 1 as reported yesterday.
Uzbekistan has ended a 10-month, H1N1-related ban on fresh and frozenpork exports originating from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, California and Kansas. Pork from these states isnow eligible for export to Uzbekistan, as long as the swine from which they are derived were not slaughtered between April 21, 2009, and February 5, 2010. (Heat-treated products from this time period were never included in the ban.)
The effective date for resuming exports is still listed as Feb. 1 in the FSIS Export Library, but a change is expected soon.
